A couple Friday’s ago The Slip played in San Francisco at The Independent. Some of you may know that I was once a big Slip fan, still am, and a friend from college recently was invited to play during their set break at this show. He has written a couple posts for The Square (click here to read) and recently he sent along the recording for this event.
Fred has been playing the guitar for a very long time and in college we use to play together a bunch. His guitar skills have always been impressive but his capability to sing and write a song were in development. And while these aren’t necessarily his songs, they sound like they could be. The songs were written by a long time Slip collaborator, Nathan Moore. Some of you may know Nathan from the Surprise Me Mr. Davis outfit, which consists of The Slip and Nathan. He is one of these mysterious song writers that, like Dylan and Cohen, is first and foremost a poet.
When The Slip got wind of these Moore covers played by Fred “Tweez” Torphy and Tim Lanterman, they jumped on the opportunity to have their crowd swooned by this duo.
Give it a listen, download, and let me know what you think.
