Love how the song starts with a fade in. Nobody really does that these days. Wild Nothing is Jack Tatum from Blacksburg, Virginia. He’s currently working on a new album as a follow up to 2010′s Gemini LP. Listen to a new track, “Nowhere”, over at Pitchfork.

Yes, New Little Barrie album!
This band has a way of popping up every two years or so in my life. I was first introduced when a friend working for Artemus Records had a bunch of albums to share and Little Barrie’s album, We are Little Barrie, was one of them. Off and on throughout the years the album would resurface from the depths of my ipod and I would go a few months of straight listening, wondering why these guys don’t have more of a presence.
While this new album, King Of The Waves, has been out in the UK since last June, it’s not getting released here until February 28th. What I’m really pissed about, however, is that I missed them playing live when they came through last weekend opening for Charles Bradley (a great find by the way). Given their rarity like aura, I have a feeling that will be the last time for many years too. Oh well, new good music is new good music and I’ll take live or recorded.

Nels Cline w/ Flaming Lips covering Beatles
On New Years Eve, Nels Cline came out and played with the Flaming Lips to help perform a rendition of the Beatle’s song, “I want You (She’s So Heavy)”. A droaning, heavy song that fits perfectly with this noise rock combination.
The only thing about this video is that Nels isn’t very high in the mix, but it’s not that big of a deal since this is not a solo where he’s showing off his chops. Here he shows off his ability to sustain feedback, create noise and build energy into a solo like not many can in today’s age of rock and roll. Nels made it into my highly respected guitar players list when I heard his solo on Wilco’s “Impossible Germany”. This list includes Hendrix, Garcia, Anastasio, Bill Frisell, Wes Montgomery, Mark Knopfler, Django Reinhardt just to name a few.
If you’re alergic to noise, don’t press play. But if you enjoy feedback, confetti, lazer beams then proceed.
NEW M. WARD!
Yet another favorite of ours releases a look inside his upcoming release, A Wasteland Campanion. With floating guitar lines and a rumbling bass drum, “The First Time I Ran Away” is a welcome addition to the his giant catalog.
NEW ANDREW BIRD!
We’re all jumping for joy over here…What a fun reminder that Andrew’s new album, Break it Yourself, is around the corner.
