Every now and then you just need to sit back and listen to this man go.

Heck yeah, New Mark Kozelek in May
Mark’s new album, Among the Leaves, is out this May. Below is a great video of Mark at the Shivering Songs Festival up in New Brunswick this past winter. The second song is “Sunshine of Chicago”, which is the second track off the new album (first song is “Heron Blue”). Per standard Kozelek, it’s memorizing.

Head over to Bradley’s Almanac to catch up on more Kozelek love and also enter to win a 4 song EP I’ll Be There. On the album is a cover of “Natural Light” by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, an alternate version of “Third and Seneca”, cover of Stereolab’s “Tomorrow is Already There” and the title track cover of Jackson 5′s classic hit, “I’ll Be There”.

This is where the magic happened.
Nels Cline w/ Flaming Lips covering Beatles
On New Years Eve, Nels Cline came out and played with the Flaming Lips to help perform a rendition of the Beatle’s song, “I want You (She’s So Heavy)”. A droaning, heavy song that fits perfectly with this noise rock combination.
The only thing about this video is that Nels isn’t very high in the mix, but it’s not that big of a deal since this is not a solo where he’s showing off his chops. Here he shows off his ability to sustain feedback, create noise and build energy into a solo like not many can in today’s age of rock and roll. Nels made it into my highly respected guitar players list when I heard his solo on Wilco’s “Impossible Germany”. This list includes Hendrix, Garcia, Anastasio, Bill Frisell, Wes Montgomery, Mark Knopfler, Django Reinhardt just to name a few.
If you’re alergic to noise, don’t press play. But if you enjoy feedback, confetti, lazer beams then proceed.
Etta James playing with the Grateful Dead
Don’t need many words to describe how awesome this is. RIP Etta.
