Live Video: Fleet Foxes at Orpheum Theatre – “Bedouin Dress”

Sounds pretty choppy but turn the volume down and you’ll get the gist of their choral powers. Fleet Foxes blew up the Orpheum Theatre in Boston last night and this video should hopefully prove that in some way shape or form. Just listen to my buddy at the 2 minute mark getting all nuts.

The crowd was definitely in rare form. The band even appeared a bit overwhelmed by the response they got. Definitely worth sacrificing a productive Wednesday at work.

Live Video: Cass McCombs @ Cafe 939 – “Dreams Come True Girl”

The video quality may be poor but the sound emanating from the Cafe 939 stage is nothing but high quality. Wait for the piano solo that kicks in around the 2:50 mark. Just sick. This is a 7+ minute version of this excellent track off of Cass’s last release, Catacombs. This show was in support of his most recent album, Wit’s End, out now.

This was a “weird one” to quote Cass. From the low attendance to the intimate nature of the crowd (read quite) and the lights being blazing hot on the band, there were perfect recipes for a bad show. But I think it’s tough to have a bad show when you are as talented as the musicians up on the stage alongside Cass, some of whom attended the little known music school that happens to own Cafe 939 (Berklee). Too bad none of their former professors showed up to the show as they got several call outs at one point.

Video: Cut Copy at House of Blues Boston “Pharaohs & Pyramids”

They did it again. They brought Saturday night to Monday and tore straight through Boston. I saw them back in 2008 as well on a Monday night in Boston and the same reaction. Here they are jamming out their new tune off of Zonoscope and getting all the kids crazy.

Local Natives @ Paradise Rock Club – Saturday

We caught up with Local Natives (not Boston natives but rather L.A. natives) back in May when they played at Great Scott. But don’t fret Boston, these are the type of L.A. kids we can tolerate. It was a great show to say the least, however, they are so new that they only have an albums worth of material to play around with. I’m sure they’ve added a cover or two and perhaps a new song that I’m not aware of as well to their set. Bottom line, they play their set with enough gusto that you’d never know the sets were identical from show to show. These kids are just psyched to be out there on the open road, playing these catchy and extremely melodic songs for you in person. So welcome them back to the east coast and catch them play along with New Zealanders, The Ruby Suns, at Paradise Rock Club on Saturday night.

Suggestion from the editor: Get their early to catch The Union Line. Download their Daytrotter Session.

Phoenix w/ Wavves opening @ Agganis Arena – Monday

phoenix in Boston at Agganis Arena We caught Phoenix during last year’s Miracle on Tremont show put on by WFNX, which also included Boston’s own Passion Pit and the impeccably smooth Spoon. In my opinion, Phoenix stole the show. Not that I was surprised but rather upset that it had taken me so long to finally see them play. I remember when they were playing T.T. the Bear’s Place and for what ever reason I didn’t go. Kicking myself ever since. Don’t kick yourself by missing them tomorrow.
