Win TV on the Radio Designed Poster

Unless you’re living on some stranded island and don’t have access to the Internet or even basic cable (watch TVOTR on Jay Leno), then you know that TV on the Radio are pretty awesome.
Listen to their sounds on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/tvotr
They’re also pretty artistic if you couldn’t tell. And not just with the musical instruments but also with the brush.
Lead singer, Tunde Adebimpe, designed a poster of the foursome (see above pic) and you can have a copy if you answer the following question:
“The imagery in the video for “Golden Age” is apparently connected to the Mayan Apocalypse. What is the actual date that this apocalypse is suppose to take place?”

Leave your answer in the comments or email it to Kip[AT]Hip2besquare[DOT]net. I’ll select a winner at random. Contest over at 11/11 5 pm EST.
Win tickets to see Delta Spirit and Dr. Dog at Middle East Downstairs
This Friday night at the Middle East Downstairs, Dr. Dog and Delta Spirit grace us with their presence. For those Dr. fans, Delta Spirit has a similar 60’s, Beatlesque filled with Americana that Dr. Dog is superior at. In fact, P-fork found their Beatle similarities to be their downfall. But one thing I know for sure, this kind of music is happy happy smiles the whole night through.
The Dog played a free show back in the beginning of the summer in Harvard Square and while the John Harvards that gracefully accommodated the last minute switch to an indoors show was packed in like sardines, the experience was still something to be grateful for. In fact, I was more impressed with Dr. Dog live then on their most recent studio work, “Fate”, but both are equally worthy of your time.
Delta Spirit bring their west coast spirit to the tour, hailing from southern California. They were recently included in Filter’s Ragged Volume #5 which you can download for free here: http://www.raggedmag.com/
So, to win a pair of tickets to Friday’s show, a copy of Delta Spirits “Ode to Sunshine” CD and a copy of Ragged Magazine (physical copy), answer the following question either in the comments or by emailing Kip[AT]hip2besquare[DOT]net.
Question: Besides Dr. Dog, what other two top indie bands have Delta Spirit opened up for? Hint: the answer can be found in the Ragged article.
Download Delta Spirit tracks from their Daytrotter session back in May of 2007: http://www.daytrotter.com/daytrotterSessions/741/free-songs-delta-spirit

The Teenagers : Win Guest List Spot for Boston Show
The Teenagers are gracing us with their presence on Thursday, May 8th at the Paradise Rock Club and you could win 2 guest list spots if you are the first to send me an email with the subject: “The Teenagers in Boston”. Submit your request at kippy@hip2besquare.net. Or, you can submit a comment to this posting with the same tag line in the message. I will announce and contact the winner on Wednesday.
The Teenagers are from Paris and have developed their sound around such indie icons as My Bloody Valentine but keep it lively with added pop influences from bands like their own country men, Phoenix. Their MBV sound comparison also explains why they’ve taken a strong liking to both Sofia Coppola and Scarlett Johanssen. They’ve even written a song about Scarlett – Check out the video and download the song below.
Download: “Starlett Johansson”
Their philosophy is very similar to the concept behind M83’s recent album, Saturdays = Youth (check out music and video from M83’s new material). Just like with M83’s new album, The boys from The Teenagers love the youthfulness of the teen years, which weren’t long ago for these twenty somethings. Adolescents and all that goes with it – puppy love, awkwardness, day dreaming, etc – make up a good portion of their songs on their recent full album release, Reality Check. This teen love theme is front and center in the single, “Love, No”. Watch the video for “Love, No”.
- Also playing are Team Robespierre and local Boston favorites, Hearthrob.
